About Us - Our Mission

The VRDC's goal is to provide a venue for local and national political discussion and activism. The Club holds regular events that allow its membership to interact with elected officals, to learn and become involved with issues that are relevant to our community, and to socialize. The Club has also historically sponsored local non-profit organizations and hosted policy related educational events for local residents.

During the election cycle, the Club hosts endorsement meetings where candidates commonly visit to present their election platforms and engage in question and answer sessions. The membership is involved with the election process, with working with city and state officials to address local concerns, and with coordinating political efforts with likeminded organizations.

The VRDC encourages and supports its members to run for a variety of city and statewide positions that have a very real impact on city and state policy. In the past, the Club has enlisted its members to run for positions on the Manhattan Democratic County Committee, the State Democratic Committee, the Judicial Delegation, The Community Boards, and the City Council.

The VRDC promotes the following Democratic ideals:

  • Access building the conduit between local activists and government
  • Transparency providing insight into local issues and political processes
  • Engagement hosting political educational, activist, and social events
  • Cooperation promoting common interests with other organizations
  • Community Service serving the needs of our neighbors
